MDL Sought for Apple Lawsuits Over AirTag Stalking Problems and Damages Caused By Unauthorized Tracking

Plaintiffs alleging injuries from Apple AirTag misuse by stalkers and abusers have petitioned the JPML to centralize their claims into a multidistrict litigation. The motion, filed August 4, 2026, seeks to consolidate more than 20 individual lawsuits currently pending in at least 17 different federal courts and proposes that the MDL be established in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona under Judge Diane Humetewa.

The underlying claims allege that Apple designed, manufactured, and marketed AirTags without adequate safety features or safeguards to prevent misuse by stalkers and abusers. The plaintiffs argue that coordinated pretrial proceedings would eliminate duplicative discovery, reduce the risk of inconsistent rulings, and improve overall efficiency as additional cases continue to be filed.

Many of the individual lawsuits resulted from the denial of class certification earlier in 2026 in a proposed nationwide AirTag stalking class action, after which plaintiffs pivoted to pursuing individual personal injury claims instead. Additional cases are expected to be filed as the litigation develops.
