Charles and Jamie Crummie filed a lawsuit in February 2026 against multiple defendants including Nurse Assist LLC, Neurovend LLC (doing business as State Side Medical Supply), Amazon.com Inc., and several other distributors and retailers. The Crummies allege that Charles used SteriCare sterile water for wound cleaning, relying on the manufacturer's representation that the product was safe and sterile, but the product was contaminated and caused him to develop a serious bacterial infection that progressed to sepsis, shock, and fever.

According to the complaint, the defendants are responsible for manufacturing, distributing, and selling a medical product with manufacturing defects that allegedly allowed bacteria and contaminants to breach the sterile packaging. A federal judge has established a trial schedule targeting August 2027 and has ordered the parties to attempt settlement negotiations before trial proceeds.
